What Stage, its app and this website know about you

Version 1.0. Sgàil Ltd (SC899332), a company registered in Scotland, is who this page is about - the we below. You can reach us at support@sgail.com, including for anything on this page.

This covers three different things, because they collect three different amounts: the engine, which runs on your machine and reaches nowhere; the Stage app, which can talk to an account if you make one; and this website, which you are reading now. Where something below applies to only one of them, it says so.

The engine

Stage the engine makes no network request of its own, ever. Give it a game and a place to run, and it reads what is on disk and writes what you tell it to. Nothing about you or the game you are running leaves the machine it is running on, because the engine has no code path that would send it anywhere. There is no telemetry to turn off, because there is none to turn on.

The app

The Stage app is the engine plus a library around it, and the library is where an account comes in. Signing in is optional - the app plays and manages games you already have without one - and it unlocks cloud saves, a profile, friends, achievements and reviews, which need somewhere to live. That somewhere is hosted in the EU, and this section is about what ends up there.

Signing in

You sign in with Google, with Apple, or with a one-time code sent to an email address - never a password of ours to leak. With Google or Apple, we learn only that the account you signed into is signing into Stage: enough to sign you in again, and nothing about what else that account does. With an email code, we hold the address so we can send the next one and so we know it is you.

What an account holds

Everything above is read only by you signed in, with two exceptions, both stated next to what they are: a review, which is public by design, and a report, which only we can read, to act on it.

Deleting an account

In the app, open Settings, then Account, and press Delete account. That takes everything above with it - straight away, and for good. If you can't sign in to do that yourself, email support@sgail.com and we will do it for you.

Other people's code

Signing in with Google or with Apple sends you to their own sign-in page, and what you do there is between you and them, under their own privacy terms - we only ever receive the outcome described above. Supabase, who host the account data described here, are the other processor involved; where their own terms bear on this, they are at supabase.com/privacy.

This website

This site - the one this page is on - is a set of static pages plus Google Analytics, which is how we know whether anybody reads them. It sets cookies and sends Google a record of the pages you visit, your rough location and the device and browser you are reading on. It does not know who you are by name, and we have set nothing up here to try to find out. You can block it the way you would block any tracker - an extension, or your browser's own tracking protection - without anything on this site working any differently for having done so.

Downloading a release does not tell us anything: the download itself is served the same way the rest of the page is, and this site has no account of its own to sign into.

Your rights

Where UK or EU data protection law applies to you, you can ask us to show you what we hold, correct it, delete it, or hand it to you in a portable form, by writing to support@sgail.com. If you think we have got something wrong, you can also complain to the UK's Information Commissioner's Office, or the data protection authority where you live.

Changes to this page

If this page changes in a way that matters, we will say so here and move the version number at the top. It does not change what already happened under an earlier version.
